When I first heard about this concert series I hyperventilated, I kid you not. KROQ is an Iconic radio station and it was so much fun going to this event. If you look above you notice the set of wonderful, amazing people. Wait till you see night two. This day I was beyond excited because I hadn't seen anyone of these acts before (I know hard to believe). The concert itself started precisely at 4:15 which was refreshing. The stage actually rotated which was way cool and made transitioning between acts a breeze. This all took place at the FORUM in Inglewood. This was my first time at this venue and it immediately reminded me of my hometown arena. That rush of Nostalgia made me really enjoy this venue, it’s large but not too large. Parking was easy but $20 in the adjacent lot by the Forum. I don’t want to weigh down this post two much so I will say a detailed sentence or two about each act.
THE STRUTS - English rock band hailing from Manchester who wear leather pants and sparkly kimonos. Played four songs and it was glorious, it was like watching old school rock n roll, so cool.
HALSEY – Remarkable singer and really cool person, she’s only 21 years old. She jumped into the crowd and walked around all willy nilly while singing because she’s a bad ass, I’m definitely going to a Halsey concert.
FOALS – English Indie rock band hailing from Oxford and winner of Best Live Act (Q Awards 2013). Foals was a great act and they're only gaining momentum.
X AMBASSADORS – Alternative rock band hailing from New York, you might recognize their mega-hit “Renegades.” They put on quite a show, the lead singer Sam Harris is a skilled saxophone player and his brother Casey Harris is the keyboardist who has been blind since birth.
AWOLNATION – Electronic band hailing from Los Angeles, this performance was one of the most confusing things I’ve ever seen. I like these guys they are out there, way out there, I know a few of their songs and I really like their sound but when they performed they sounded like a Scream-o band and I didn’t think it was even them.
SILVERSUN PICKUPS – Alternative rock band hailing from Los Angeles, these guys were very cordial and I like the sound of their music but for the life of me I can’t remember any of it. Nikki the bass player I remember because she was badass and adorable at the same time.
BASTILLE – English indie rock band hailing from London, you may remember their hit “Pompeii.” Dan Smith was magnificent and his hair was even better, together with the rest of the band they delivered an enjoyable performance.
CAGE THE ELEPHANT – Rock band hailing from Kentucky, these guys had such an electric performance. Whatever Matt Schultz was on I wanted some of it, he was full of energy and running all over the stage and almost accidently strangled one of the stage hands with the microphone cord, fantastic show.
TWENTY ONE PILOTS – Musical duo hailing from Ohio, these guys were my favorite act of the night, they should have been the headliner because they performed like it. GO SEE THEM LIVE GO NOW THERE ISN’T MUCH TIME PEOPLE WILL FIND OUT ABOUT HOW AWESOME THEY ARE, there was back flips, crowd surfing, running in the audience, epic drum solos, neon lights, and confetti cannons, nuf said.
WEEZER – Rock band hailing from Los Angeles, I was not really a big Weezer fan back in the day but it was pretty cool watching them preform. They played some old songs and some new songs and I could hear the entire Forum singing along it was a fun time.
DISCLOSURE – Electronic brother music duo hailing from Surrey, this was where the KROQ staff messed up. Disclosure was awesome but putting them at the end of this show was not fair to them at all, everyone started leaving during their set (it was around 11:45 at night) and you could tell they were bummed, bad vibes all around. I was not okay with it and stayed the whole DJ set, KROQ should have seen this one coming.
